STATE HOUSE -- Rep. Robert Lancia (R-Dist. 16, Cranston) is pleased to welcome members of the India Association of Rhode Island to the State House in celebration of the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
The night will include artistic performances, dancers, musicians, and speeches by invited guests and dignitaries. A number of students will also be presenting essays on what the famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” means to them.
“I think it is wonderful that we have the chance to host an event such as this. We can all take Mahatma Gandhi’s message to heart and try to work toward a more peaceful society.”
Mahatma Gandhi became famous for leading non-violent protests against British colonial rule in India and ultimately helped secure the nation’s independence. His example has inspired civil rights activists across the world for generations and continues to serve as a guide for all those seeking freedom and peace.
Rep. Lancia will be participating in the night’s festivities and will also present the newly elected President and Vice President of the India Association of Rhode Island on the floor of the State House of Representatives during the legislative session.
