ABOUT REP. David J. Place
Representative David J. Place was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018, representing the residents of District 47, which includes Burrillville and Glocester. He serves on three House standing committees, which include Judiciary (considers all bills affecting the penal code, judicial system, ethics, open meetings, access to public records and election laws); Municipal Government (deliberates on legislation affecting municipal government, constituent interests and transportation); and Veteran’s Affairs (considers legislation that impacts the lives of Rhode Island Veterans).
Place firmly protects local interests when balancing the needs of other cities and towns across the Ocean State, especially when it comes to the distribution of state resources. During his freshman year in the General Assembly he supported legislation that reduced taxes, bettered core-government functions and endorsed initiatives that promoted a more robust economic climate in Rhode Island.
During the 2019 legislative session, the Republican Caucus moved the needle on a number of important state government issues on behalf of Rhode Island’s hardworking taxpayers. Place served 10 years as a U.S. Army staff sergeant, assigned as a tank commander on an M1A1 Abrams. He was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and was decorated for leadership and heroism while in combat.
Upon returning home, Place graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He is employed by American Tool Company, a family-owned Rhode Island business.
Place resides in Harrisville and is married to Erin Todisco-Place. They are the parents of daughters, Michelle and Amalia.
2019 RI FREEDOM INDEX LEGISLATOR SCORECARD
The 2019 Freedom Index was created by the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity. The Freedom Index examines a legislator's voting record in terms of their likely effect on the free market, the size and scope of government, the balance of residents' interests against those of public employees and beneficiaries, and the constitutional structure of government over the people it represents. In the Rhode Island General Assembly, 95 pieces of legislation were analyzed from the 2019 legislative session. The membership of the House Republican Caucus ranked in the top fifteen of Rhode Island General Assembly legislators (there are 110) who consistently vote for liberty in the State of Rhode Island.
