STATE REPRESENTATIVE BRIAN J. REA

DISTRICT 53 - SMITHFIELD, GLOCESTER

ABOUT REP. bRIAN J. REA

Printer Friendly View
In addition to entering elected public service, Brian Rea works as a Facilities Director for a Rhode Island State Charter Corporation. Rea has over 20 years of experience creating and maintaining proper campus infrastructure needs, while balancing those needs within stringent budget allowances. Rea is also a business owner, currently owning a convenience store and restaurant in Glocester, Rhode Island.

Rea’s quest to become a State Representative derives from his passion to right the wrongs from big government -- which tends to enact policies and levy taxes that burden the people of Rhode Island. Rea has been engaged in grass roots public service, most recently as the Chair of the Smithfield Republican Town Committee. Working with partners, such as the Conservation law Foundation of Washington D.C., he tirelessly spear-headed community efforts focused on protecting the rights of individuals. Rea’s Republican committee recruitment efforts resulted in the largest committee growth in years, and during his tenure, their candidates experienced a win rate of over 75 percent.

“I will be using my collective experiences -- as a business owner, corporate experience, advocate, father, husband, neighbor, and tax payer—to champion thoughtful legislation and to fight unconstitutional, cumbersome special interest initiatives at the State House,” says Rea.

Rea is a lifelong Rhode Islander, graduating from Johnston High School, then continuing his studies at CCRI.

Rea resides in Smithfield with his wife Michelle, of over 22 years. Together they have 3 children -- Kevin, Breanna, and Giovanni; and a grandson, Noah.

About rhode island house republicans

In 1636, Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, established the first working model of Democracy after being banished from Massachusetts for his “extreme views” concerning freedom of speech and religion. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams publicly acknowledged Williams as the originator of these concepts, along with the freedom of public assembly, in the First Amendment in the United States Constitution. Today, Rhode Island House Republicans uphold the liberties designed by our Founders and preserved in our Constitution, and are the primary legislative body promoting lean government, fighting for lower taxes, and advocating for initiatives and policies that improve the economy and in turn, the lives of Rhode Islanders.  As members of a part-time assembly, we are small business owners, retired educators, community activists, lawyers, farmers, military service veterans, volunteers, former local officials, retired social workers, coaches, musicians, churchgoers and board directors -- bringing these community engagement and professional experiences to our work, on your behalf, at the Rhode Island State House.
