STATE HOUSE  --  State Representative Robert B. Lancia (R-District 16 Cranston) will join the India Association of Rhode Island in celebrating “Diwali, the Festival of Lights” at the Rhode Island State House, 82 Smith St, Providence, RI 02903 on Friday, October 20, 2017 starting at 5:00 pm.

“I am very proud to celebrate this day, along with the India Association of Rhode Island, and along with other Rhode Islanders, enjoy the varieties of multicultural performances featuring graceful classical dances, ethnic folk dances, exciting Bollywood dances that will be presented,” said Representative Lancia.

In India, Diwali memorializes the end of an old cycle and the beginning of a new one. Diwali represents the final victory of the positive forces, so it is always a time for celebration and jubilation. It is for this reason that Diwali is not just a festival of India, but a festival full of significance for all.

The India Association of Rhode Island serves over 3000 families of Asian-Indian origin by promoting and providing an authentic image of India and its culture within Rhode Island and surrounding communities. The India Association of Rhode Island also strives to cultivate understanding and harmony between our Indian & American communities of Rhode Island.

Due to space limitation, the event is open to invitees only.

About rhode island house republicans

In 1636, Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, established the first working model of Democracy after being banished from Massachusetts for his “extreme views” concerning freedom of speech and religion. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams publicly acknowledged Williams as the originator of these concepts, along with the freedom of public assembly, in the First Amendment in the United States Constitution. Today, Rhode Island House Republicans uphold the liberties designed by our Founders and preserved in our Constitution, and are the primary legislative body promoting lean government, fighting for lower taxes, and advocating for initiatives and policies that improve the economy and in turn, the lives of Rhode Islanders.  As members of a part-time assembly, we are small business owners, retired educators, community activists, lawyers, farmers, military service veterans, volunteers, former local officials, retired social workers, coaches, musicians, churchgoers and board directors -- bringing these community engagement and professional experiences to our work, on your behalf, at the Rhode Island State House.
