State House, Providence – The impact inflation is having on full service meal prices, compounded with the state’s meal and beverage tax, may be a disincentive to patrons from dining out—this on top of the recent transportation hurdles Rhode Islanders are facing with the Washington Bridge closure. These circumstances are hurting businesses as well as local economies.

State House, Providence – During the first week of session since the horrific October 7 attacks by Hamas, a large bipartisan group of legislators presented a Resolution of Condolences for immediate consideration by House membership. This would normally have been a routine request, as the House frequently expresses condolences to victims of terror or other atrocities or events. Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership declined to follow customary procedure forcing the resolution to go to committee where there is no guarantee it will ever see the light of day. Resolution sponsor Rep. Brian C. Newberry and House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale commented:

In response to a growing number of concerned Rhode Island constituents who have had bad solar installation experiences, Representative Brian Rea (District 53) will reintroduce his legislation to offer consumers protection from the growing solar industry in the upcoming legislative session. House Bill 5663 requires that all sales representatives selling or leasing solar panels be licensed by the Department of Business Regulation, and that pertinent information be provided to homeowners regarding the solar panels at the time of purchase.

State House, Providence – Today, the House Republican Caucus releases its annual “Minority Report” detailing their successes in advocating for issues, policies, and initiatives on behalf of Rhode Island taxpayers during the 2023 Legislative Session. The 2023 Legislative Session Recap is published online and is a detailed listing of successfully sponsored, co-sponsored, or caucus inspired bills and initiatives, along with their outcomes.
