State House, Providence, RI – Education reform is a top priority for Rhode Island House freshman legislator, Representative Brian Rea (D53 – Smithfield/Glocester), and he is wasting no time in crafting legislation to meet the needs of Rhode Island students. To date, he has sponsored or co-sponsored several bills focused on education issues, and has personally founded and awarded two district scholarships to high school students who are looking to attend college or technical programs.
In this RI Capitol TV Capitol Spotlight, Rhode Island House of Representatives Rep. Brian Rea focuses in on education in Rhode Island saying that we need to offer more "broad based" options for students.
Further, Rea argues that we must "meet them where they are" in order for them to succeed.
House Majority Leader Chris Blazejewski, House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale, Senator Jessica de la Cruz, and Senator Josh Miller join moderator Jim Hummel to discuss the budget surplus, complex issues surrounding affordable housing, education concerns, and more.

Education reform has been at the top of the House GOP agenda, with proposals for Failing School Choice, Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), and Language Academies as immediate reform options for families. All were "held for further study" in House Committees while our children's studies are suffering. The lack of urgency to move the needle for our children's--and Rhode Island's-- future is astounding.
