STATE HOUSE – As residents of Northern Rhode Island know, Eddie Dowling Highway, the stretch of Route 146A located in North Smithfield, is currently in a terrible state of disrepair. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is aware of this problem and will be accepting bids in the coming months with the goal of completing the repairs this year.
“I am very pleased that DOT is taking action and will be resurfacing the highway and improving the median and sidewalks,” said House Minority Leader Brian C. Newberry (R-Dist 48, North Smithfield, Burrillville). “This segment of the highway is used by thousands of motorists each day and its current condition is both an annoyance and a safety hazard. The medians in particular are in deplorable condition and I am happy to report that DOT is prioritizing this project.”
DOT intends on resurfacing the roughly 1-mile stretch located in North Smithfield, which happens to be the portion of the highway in greatest need of repair. Other scheduled improvements include rebuilding sidewalks, reconstructing the center median, and other minor safety improvements. LIKE THIS PAGE? SHARE IT WITH OTHERS
