Members of House Minority Caucus Meet with Leaders From Rhode Island’s Regional School Districts3/1/2017
STATE HOUSE -- Representative Michael Chippendale (R-District 40 Foster, Glocester, Coventry), House Minority Whip Blake Filippi (R-District 36 Charlestown, South Kingstown, Westerly, New Shoreham) and Representative Justin Price (R-District 39 Exeter, Hopkinton, Richmond) recently met with leaders from several Rhode Island Regional Schools Districts to discuss the formation of a coalition to protect students.
The goal of the coalition is to ensure that students attending the regional school districts, including the Bristol-Warren Regional School District, the Chariho Regional School District, the Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School District, and the Foster-Glocester Regional School District, continue to receive a high quality public education and to reduce the burden on the taxpayers of regional school districts.
Representative Michael Chippendale said, “As a parent, a taxpayer and a concerned member of the General Assembly, my primary goal is to protect our state’s most valuable resources, our children. I would support jointly introducing and/or supporting legislation, as necessary, to ensure that our transportation aid is not slashed as the governor is proposing in this year's budget, and is protected into the future.” According to Representative Price, it would be a mutually beneficial coalition. “This group is dedicated to cooperating and collaborating in matters related to state financial support of regional school districts. It would share knowledge with each other regarding efficient, innovative and creative educational programming, as well as disseminate information related to state funding of regional school districts. The group would also communicate with each other when state funding sources may be threatened, so we can all come together for the common good of our state’s children.” -30-
