STATE HOUSE - Representative Doreen Costa, (Dist. 31-North Kingstown, Exeter), is holding a book drive to benefit elementary school students in the towns she represents. She will be collecting books on Saturday, Jan. 23 from noon to 2 p.m. at Pier Pizza Co., 6667 Post Road, North Kingstown.
“I want to put a book in the hand of every elementary school student in North Kingstown and Exeter before February vacation,” said Costa. “I have always found that books take you on all kinds of adventures and I want to bring that to our young students.”
Last year, Costa collected more than 600 books to share with the state’s veterans organizations. The book drive was so well-received that she wanted to extend that success to the towns’ younger readers. Gently-used books as well as new ones will be gladly accepted. Boxes will be located at Pier Pizza Co. as well as at the Minority Office at the State House for those who cannot make the Jan. 23 event. “I’m very excited to collect and share these books,” she said. “Let the adventures begin!” -30-
