STATE HOUSE – Representative Doreen Costa, (R-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) will host a tour of the Quonset Air Museum for House Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m.
The museum’s future is at risk since winter storms caused the building to sustain significant damage. Museum volunteers were told they need to vacate the space by Sept. 30, 2015.

In response to the crisis, Costa approached all of the state’s cities and towns to pass a resolution asking the state to step in and assist the museum’s relocation. In addition, an on-line petition asked residents to contact their legislators to preserve the museum and its rich aviation history.

“The Quonset Air Museum has been educating the public since 1992 and is a favorite destination during the annual Quonset Air Show,” said Costa. “With 28 aircraft dating from 1944 to 1983, the museum has been showcasing civilian, military, and prototype aircraft including a one-of-a-kind Twin Tail Navy transport. To lose such a treasure would be a travesty.”

Costa said Speaker Mattiello was very interested in learning more about the issues facing the museum and welcomed the opportunity to tour the facility.

“We need to preserve and honor our aviation history,” said Costa

About rhode island house republicans

In 1636, Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, established the first working model of Democracy after being banished from Massachusetts for his “extreme views” concerning freedom of speech and religion. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams publicly acknowledged Williams as the originator of these concepts, along with the freedom of public assembly, in the First Amendment in the United States Constitution. Today, Rhode Island House Republicans uphold the liberties designed by our Founders and preserved in our Constitution, and are the primary legislative body promoting lean government, fighting for lower taxes, and advocating for initiatives and policies that improve the economy and in turn, the lives of Rhode Islanders.  As members of a part-time assembly, we are small business owners, retired educators, community activists, lawyers, farmers, military service veterans, volunteers, former local officials, retired social workers, coaches, musicians, churchgoers and board directors -- bringing these community engagement and professional experiences to our work, on your behalf, at the Rhode Island State House.
