REP. ROBERT NARDOLILLO III CONTINUES HIS ADVOCACY FOR ANIMAL WELFARE AS HE CO-SPONSORS LEGISLATION INTRODUCED TO PROTECT ANIMALS FROM EXTREME WEATHER.

​STATE HOUSE -- Rep. Robert Nardolillo III (R District 28 – Coventry) continues his advocacy for animal welfare as he co-sponsors legislation introduced to protect animals from extreme weather. This proposal will change an existing law that exempts any person raising or training a gun dog or hunting dog.

​In 2017 the General Assembly voted to enact the current law which makes it illegal to keep dogs outside when the when the surrounding temperature is above or below the industry standard set forth by the Tufts. Rep. Nardolillo stated that “While the new law was a step in the right direction it included an exemption for any person raising or training a gun dog or hunting dog, which I found highly concerning”
 
“My concern became a reality most recently as several news reports came to my attention about an owner of several pit bulls in Warwick that had kept the dogs tethered outside in order to acclimate them to cold temperatures” stated Nardolillo. 
 
Dr. E.J. Finocchio, president of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, recently stated that “No dog should be kept out in these temperatures.” Rep. Nardolillo agreed and stated, “I had received several phone calls from who were highly concerned about the well-being of these dogs during the last snow storm we had.”
 
“I can assure my constituents that this law revision will help better protect our animals and allows me to continue to look out for the interests and well-being of these animals.” Rep. Nardolillo concluded.
